Fly fishing for some of New Zealand's & the worlds best conditioned trout is a two minute walk from the cottage with many pools offering good fighting rainbow trout generally 3-5lbs. Although we do have a picture of a 15 pounder coming from our river.

The Waioeka (pronounced Why-weka) river is crystal clear with naturally stocked rainbows & browns. The flies & license can be purchased from Hickeys Sports in Opotiki. Trout fishing from within the gates of this property is strictly catch & release & FOR COTTAGE GUESTS ONLY, NOT CAMPERS.

Surfcasting can be done 10 minutes from the cottage on the beautiful beaches of the Bay of Plenty. Its a great way to relax & take in the fresh ocean breeze & salt air. Fishing from the rocks can be arranged & the cost would be depending on the charge of the fishing guide.

Deep Sea Fishing charters are available from either Opotiki (10 minute's drive) or Whakatane (30 minute's drive). Whakatane is one of if not the best locations in the world for big game fish. There are numerous tournaments throughout the year with various boats & skippers for hire. We do not promote the catching of big game fish such as Marlin, Tuna & Sharks although we acknowledge & respect our guests choice.

Wharf fishing from the Opotiki wharf is great fun for the kids. The fish bite better at full tide, however you can catch fish there anytime.
